There are so many opportunities in my day to be aware of the larger picture. When doing the bills, I can moan and groan or I can bless the fine companies that granted me services in advance of my payment. That simple re-framing casts a soft glow on the chore as I consciously think of the people working to bring light and warmth to my home. The car I drive that is not paid for, or the home itself which carries a mortgage. And of course the insurance companies. Their fees look mighty steep when everything is running smoothly but one small glitch in the works and we are grateful for their services also.
So many times I run through my daily routines without noticing the small ways I can bring a spark of the sacred to the moment. The postman who needs to feel a human connection if I can spare a moment or two for a short chat. The plumber who is two hours late because his boss is overworked and forgot to tell him. Everyday moments that give me the opportunity to practice love and compassion in very small ways in my own little corner of the world. If I cannot be the light here and now, how can I expect others on a larger stage to do any better? As Gandhi said most accurately, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world". It is my responsibility if I choose to accept it. Practice. Practice. Practice.
Hi Kathleen,
What a beautiful post! I love the idea of re-framing the bills. You have an "Attitude of Gratitude" it sounds corny but I think it makes a difference. My Mom always said: "Find something to be grateful for" Of course she was right about that, and so MANY other things.

I'm trying to be better at this, especially when everything seems so precarious and precious at once.

This collage is beautiful, I love the woman and the textures in the background, but especially the halo with the cut papers... I agree with you, every day is holy. Roxanne
